Cher Genius
Cheesy? Check. Full of clichés? Check. Is it going to make you go out immediately and buy a pair of suspenders and the highest heels you can find (men and women)? Double check.
Perhaps the acting of superstar Christina Aguilera isn’t all it might be cracked up to be (think back to Britney in Crossroads and Mariah in Glitter to get an idea), the script has a line or ten that will definitely make you role your eyes and it has the mandatory story line of ‘girl from country goes to city, puts savings in her toilet in her bed-sit, gets a job in a bar, comes home to discover house has been burgled, then luck turns around and she becomes a singing/dancing sensation’…. Despite all of that Burlesque is dazzling.
Cher hires farm girl Christina Aguilera to perform at her LA nightclub The new all singing, all dancing film from the original 64 year old queen of reinvention, her first in a decade, and the little girl with the big voice and a lot of makeup is exactly what you need as winter closes in. It’s a big, glitzy movie that’s covered in sequins. Think about the entertainment factor. Forget about the fact that it doesn’t make much sense.
